Sleep is the Word!

July 17, 2009

Sleep is the word,
It’s got groove it’s got meaning,
Sleep is the time, is the place is the motion
Sleep is the way we are feeling

song to the tune and lyrics of “GREASE”

SLEEP!! is what I DIDN’T get much of last night at the sleep study. For one, it is a strange bed. Another, I am sleeping by myself without Kim. Another, you are hooked up to so many wires and they prefer you stay resting on your back. I toss and turn mostly, so was concentrating on staying on my back. I feel aweful at the moment. But I should perk back up after a while.

There was another person getting a sleep study, so one nurse on duty had to tend to both of us. She was a real trooper. While she was working on the other person in another room, I sat and tatted a bit. Got part of a flower done! The hooking up of all the electrodes took about 45 minutes. Lots more glue in the hair and wires coming from my legs and chest like earlier that morning. I looked like a freak show from Star Wars or Dune!! And the weight of the wires was heavy. How’s that for a face lift???!!!! Or face down….whichever. Actually it felt like I had heavy dreadlocks HAH
After I got hooked up and layed in bed, she ran a couple of preliminary tests to see if everything was in working order. Then was my time to sleep. Yeah right! I felt like I layed there for hours in sleep/awake limbo. And I had a bad case of restless leg syndrom, more than usual. Could be nerves or not much sleep from other nights. Dunno. The sound of the thunderstorm and rain was nice and thought it would put me to sleep. No. The A/C kicking on didn’t help. Not used to that particular noise so close to my bed. Thank goodness the helicopter didn’t have to transport anyone. The pad was on the other side of the wall. They said it is a rare occasion that the helicopter gets used.

It was a long night. I do think I did get some shut-eye because I remember having dreams. Or were they halucinations? since I didn’t really sleep. No…they were dreams. I guess one good thing that DIDN’T happen was that they technician didn’t have to come in the room and hook up the CPAP machine. Which was expected. I don’t stop breathing(involuntarily), I just have very shallow breathing to where it is hard to distinguish. I sure could have used some oxygen. Maybe that would have helped me sleep! Now I have to muddle through the work day without much sleep. Don’t be surprised if you see any weird postttttttttttsa ase;aaao””’adfjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

  1. LOL! The HELICOPTER PAD is on the OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL of the sleep study room! HELLO PEOPLE!!! LOL! That’s some critical thinking on their part! Glad it didn’t get used, either, but it sounds like it didn’t make much difference.

I’ve heard about these sleep studies being kind of a joke because most people can’t sleep with all those wires hooked up to them and etc., etc.

It’ll be interesting to see what they learn. Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to let you know that I’m having a giveaway! Be sure to come on over and join in!

  2. Just a thought Mark, but why not try some daily meditation? It gets you to focus on your breathing, which might encourage you to breathe more deeply, and it can relax you as much as a few hours of sleep. It would take several days of daily practice before you would be able to notice the benefits because it sounds like you would be particularly fidgety at first, but stick with it – it might help. If you don’t already. (smile)

  3. Mark – perhaps you need to sloooooooow dooooowwwwwwn a little. Okay, you can finish the wedding lace, but take some time to “smell the coffee”. ;-)

    Get better.

  4. trust me….I have REALLY been sniffing the coffee LOL!!
